Pharmaceutical thief caught in Cancun, wanted by U.S. DEA and FBI

Ernesto Simeón, of Cuban origin, was arrested in Cancun, Mexico on June 7, 2012 by state police. He was wanted by the U.S. DEA and the FBI for participation in a drug ring responsible for the largest pharmaceutical theft in U.S. history. Zócalo Saltillo reports the ring had stolen over $100 million in goods, including $80 million worth of medication. The DEA and the FBI have been investigating the case since 2009. 11 other members of the ring were previously arrested in Miami, as well as 1 member in Nebraska. The stolen medication included cancer medicine, anti-anxiety pills, antidepressants, and diabetes medicine, among others. The police caught Simeón after receiving intelligence that he was in Cancun with his girlfriend. He is also involved in the investigation of a tourist vehicle robbery in Cancun. Read Article
