Peruvian Corruption Ring Threatens Progress on Peru’s War on Terror

In the 1990s, then-Peruvian dictator Alberto Fujimori and his right-hand man (and spy-chief) Vladimiro Montesinos created a ring of corruption coupled a faction of major drug lords with Peruvian military commanders.

At the same time as Montesinos, who was primarily responsible for the creation of this web, created this system, the Peruvian government was pledging its support to the United States and working with the United States to capture and arrest a different set of drug lords.

Eventually, Montesinos even coordinated the sale of weapons to FARC terrorists in Colombia. The FARC are a group of narco-terrorists who have been operating in Colombia for years. Read Article
