Peru: Government Announces Solution to Huancavelica Protests

  • According to ElComercio.pe, Rosario Fernandez, head of the Peruvian cabinet announced Wednesday June 22nd, that a budget will not be shared among the universities of Tayacaja and Huancavelica.
  • The new University in Tayacaja and the University of Huancavelica will have two separate budgets, announced Fernandez.
  • The Prime Minister condemned the violent reaction of the people in Huancavelica.
  • The protesters sacked and burned the headquarters of the regional government.
  • Congress will investigate the legislation that lead to the creating of the new university in Tavacaja and the reaction by the public. This is to prevent a situation like this in the future.Read Article
