Peru: fifteen sqaure kilometers of Amazon forest lost in ten years

The Amazon -recently declared one of the new seven natural wonders of the world, presents a serious threat: in Peru, have lost 15 million acres of forest from 2000 to 2010. This was revealed by a study done by deforestation Amazon Network Socioambiental Georeferenced Information (RAISG), which consists of 11 organizations from eight countries within the Amazon basin. Each year Peru lost an estimated 150,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest and the trend is increasing. Read Article
