Peru: Three Dead in University Conflict

According to ElUniverso.com three people died in clashes between police and students at the University of Huancavelica in central Peru. The students are protesting budget cuts to the funds of the University of Huancavelica in order to create another university in Tayacaja. The three deaths included a child and 32 people were reported wounded. Also, three government officials were burned during riots. The incidents occurred in the afternoon and night of Tuesday June 21st. According to ElUniverso.com protesters marched the government headquarters in Huancavelica. Protests evolved into rioting in which stones and sticks were used. As of now, government officials say that all transportation, markets and schools will be closed in Huancavelica. These protestors are preparing a demonstration of 140,000 people in the coming days. In Tayacaja demonstrations began to defend the creation of the university.Read Article
