Peru, Australian tourist shot in Lima taking taxi to the airport

In the middle of the night on Thursday a pirate or fake taxi picked up an Australian tourist in the center of Lima and her husband to go to the airport. The suspect who has a history of rape and robbery, kidnapped and robbed the victim who resisted and was shot in the stomach. She is recovering in a a local clinic. Press reports did not indicate the husband’s status. The assailant according to elcomercio.pe was apprehended Thursday afternoon with some of the belongings of other victims of similar type of assaults. 1. Police believe that there are currently ten gangs that are focusing on robbing foreigners.
2. Gangs will often have a lookout at the airport for tourists that appear to have money.
3. The lookout will call an accomplice to intercept the tourist in a taxi. Thieves are using fake taxis.
4. The victim is taken to an isolated area where they are robbed and or assaulted.
