Paraguay: Nine peasants, seven policemen die in land dispute

At least nine peasants and seven policemen were killed Thursday during clashes in the region of Curuguaty Paraguay, 250 kilometers northeast of Asuncion, said Interior Minister Carlos Filizzola.

“There are seven casualties on the side of the police and at least nine casualties among the occupiers” of land, the official confirmed.

An estimated 80 people were injured when police attacked the peasants who led crackdown on land claim on a property owned by businessman Blas Riquelme, as quoted by the newspaper ABC. Read Article
