Opposition Leader in Brazilian Federal Senate Calls Lula Investigation “Essential”

On January 9, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the Brazil Social Democracy Party (PSDB) welcomed the announcement of an investigation examining the activities of ex-President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.  Alvaro Dias (PSDB), president of the Federal Senate, said that without a proper investigation, the mensalão could damage the Workers’ Party’s (PT) future message and compromise the reelection of current President Dilma Rousseff.  The leader of the PT in the Senate, Walter Pinheiro, referred to the investigations as a campaign to pursue the former President.  Read Article
