Operations at Quito Ecuador airport interrupted after earthquake, now operational

telesurtv.net reported…The Geophysical Institute of Ecuador registered it as an earthquake and not an aftershock from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 16.

An earthquake struck the capital of Ecuador at 11:23 p.m., local time. Although only a 4.6 magnitude earthquake, reports are that it felt very strong and power was lost in several areas of Quito.

The Geophysical Institute of Ecuador registered it as an earthquake and not an aftershock from the 7.8 magnitude earthquake on April 16.

Operations at the Mariscal Sucre International Airport were reportedly interrupted, but are now back to normal, according to the Minister of Security Coordination.The ministry also reported landslides in Chiche and Guayllamaba and on Simon Bolivar Avenue and freeway.

The areas without electricity are Granda Centeno, Tumbaco, Puembo, Pifo, Cumbaya and the old airport, but the electric company is working on restoring light, according to officials.

The Geophysical Institute said the epicenter was 10.6 kilometers from Quito and its depth was 7.30 kilometers.
