On February 7, 2013, O Estado de São Paulo reported that the number of phone calls received by the federal Dial 1-0-0 campaign in Brazil rose 58.3% in 2012.  According to the Ministry of Human Rights in Brasília, the department received 130,000 complaints last year, as opposed to around 82,000 the year before.  The head of Human Rights, Maria do Rosário, commented that the rising number signals a rise in awareness of the issue of child abuse.  During the season of Carnaval, such awareness is especially important, she added, as many of the signs of child abuse will be more obvious.  Participants are urged to dial 1-0-0 whenever they see a sign of a child being harassed.  Read Article
