Nicaragua to Begin New Campaign against Drugs

According to Prensa Latina on May 21, 2013 the Nicaraguan government will begin its new anti-drug campaign called Reaffirming Our Nicaragua is Free of Drugs. The new campaign is under the authority of the Executive Secretariat of the National Council on Organized Crime. The campaign will cover the entire country and ensures a greater scope of the fight against trafficking and addiction. Since Daniel Ortega’s return to power in 2007 the Nicaraguan government has detained 18 Mexican traffickers and sentenced them to 30 years in prison in addition to fines. Since 2000, the Nicaraguan military has confiscated 131,000 kilos of drugs. Read Article
