Nicaragua: Army has seized 120 tons of cocaine since 2000

General Julio Cesar Aviles, head of the military in Nicaragua, has announced that the army has seized approximately 120 tons of cocaine since 2000. The General claimed that Nicaragua discovered the most drugs in the Central American area with the least amount of resources. He also stated that drugs remain the largest threat to national security, Noticias Nevada reports. Nicaragua is situated along a high-traffic corridor between South America and the United States, making drug trafficking a rampant issue. The General said that narco-traffickers use specialized equipment that not even the military possesses, making drugs an evil that is tough to combat. Read Article
