Narcos attempting to convert Guatemala into clandestine manufacturer of synthetic drugs

Siglo21.com.gt reported that a risk analysis of the Interior Ministry reveals a latent threat of drug trafficking groups that “intend to put together to make synthetic drug laboratories in the country,” said the head of this portfolio, Mauricio Lopez Bonilla.

The official explained that “probably are trying to make natural drugs like cocaine,” that following the seizure, on August 14, 80 casks containing cocaine paste located in Puerto Quetzal, Escuintla.

“We found evidence that there may be a strategy that attempts to send a semi-processed product in Guatemala could be the final process that serves to commercialization,” said the manager of the portfolio of the interior. Read Article
