Mexico: Two Zapatistas Kidnapped and Tortured Over Land Dispute in Chiapas

The Zapatista committee of good government (JBG) of Morelia denounced aggressive actions and attempts to dispossess Zapatista supporters of their lands made by members of the Regional Organization of Coffee Growers in Ocosingo (Orcao), La Jornada reports. The conflict began June 10 when Orcao members pressured and threatened a Zapatista supporter to change allegiances. Over a period of several days, the Orcao members proceeded to destroy the crops and farmlands of the Zapatista supporter. When other JBG members came to assist, Orcao members set up a roadblock and attacked any who tried to pass, resulting in the kidnapping of two Zapatistas on June 20.
