Mexico, Women in Guanajuato – The Worst Coke and Crack Addicts

Women in the Mexican state of Guanajuato are the top consumers of coke and crack cocaine in the country; Guanajuato is one of top 10 states for illegal drug consumption in Mexico
In workshop held on policies for addiction prevention, Carlos Tena (Commissioner of National Council Against Addiction) argued against drug legalization, saying it would only exacerbate consumption; said battling the addiction problem is a top priority for government
1.2 million Mexicans consume illegal drugs; 450,000 are addicts; excessive smoking and alcoholism also problematic with 2.2 million tobacco addicts and 4.2 million alcoholics in the country
Government has developed New Life Centers for rehabilitating addicts and assisting families in intervention; 323 currently exist with 900 specialists on staff. Read Article
