The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) discloses the
preliminary information, nationally and by state, of homicides
registered in the country in 2012.
In order to facilitate comparison with previous years, is added
series of the final statistics of homicides from 2006 to 2011. This and

Statistics reveal that in 2012 there were 26 thousand 037 murders in Mexico, ie
a ratio of 22 per 100 000 inhabitants, Chihuahua and Guerrero
the states with the highest rate, with 77, while Aguascalientes and

The figures are derived from the information captured from vital statistics
administrative records generated by the states, basically
accidental and violent deaths.

through records and death certificates, this information is supplemented
with agencies that provided by the Public Ministry
statistical notebooks.
To calculate homicide rates per hundred thousand inhabitants,
used data published last April by the CONAPO, concerning
estimates of the population for the years 1990 – 2009 and Projections
Population of Mexico, 2010-2050.
