Mexican drug trafficker stopped in Guatemala, connections to Sinaloa Cartel; wanted in USA

Walter Alirio Montejo Mérida, alias “El Zope,” a Mexican narco-trafficker associated with smuggling operations involving the Sinaloa Cartel, was captured in Guatemala City. According to Provincia, he is one of the most active drug traffickers in Guatemala and is reported to be the link between the Sinaloa Cartel and the Familia Lorenzana, a narco group operating in the east of Guatemala. The United States recently issued an extradition request for 6 members of this group wanted for involvement in drug trafficking. Experts in the United States and Guatemala have found evidence suggesting the Sinaloa cartel has spread its operations to Guatemala. Read Article
