Mayor Impeached for Illegal Actions in Jandaia do Sul, Paraná, Brazil

On January 16, 2013, TNOnline reported that the mayor of Jandaia do Sul, Dejair Valério (PTC), and his deputy, Leandro de Souza Silva (PSD), were relieved of their posts by electoral courts.  This decision comes after the two were found guilty of a scheme in which they passed laws readjusting the salaries of 296 municipal employees in September, just one month before local elections.  Defense attorneys have announced that they will appeal the sentence, citing that there was no proof of electoral benefit in light of the law.  Read Article
