Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil: Smuggling Activity Results in R$19 million Seized

On August 19, 2013 Globo reported that the Federal Highway Police in Mato Grosso do Sul have confiscated R$19 million worth of contraband goods this year, more than half being cigarettes. In total, 400 vehicles have been seized over the past two years for either smuggling or embezzlement. As police have tightened the border between Brazil and Paraguay for smuggling activity, traffickers have acted violently by setting two police cars on fire. Read Article
