Mato Grosso, Brazil: Woman Arrested for Drug Trafficking, Involving Young Daughter

On March 3, 2013, 24 Horas News reported that a woman was arrested in the state of Mato Grosso yesterday trying to transport about 14 kilograms of cocaine paste.  Federal Highway Police arrested the woman in the region of Primavera do Leste, about 230 kilometers from Cuiabá, the capital.  The drugs were headed for Barra de Graças, about 500 kilometers from the capital.  A five year-old girl, discovered to be the woman’s daughter, was also found on board the Ford EcoSport, and was taken into custody.  The woman, Jessica Pinheiro Gonçalves, confessed to the trafficking and said she would be paid R$2,000 to transport the drugs.  Read Article
