Posted on May 7, 2015 • Filed under: Ecuador, Latin America Health reported Chikungunya fever rises in Manabi. In the province 1,347 cases, of which 800 are from Manta, according to the Zonal Health Coordination 4 are recorded.
On April 13 there had been 117 cases in Portoviejo. Yesterday there were 33th, nearly triple in less than a month.
Carmina Pinargote, head of this coordination, indicates that technically it is an outbreak.
“When a single case of a disease occurs in a territory where he has never been, this is called epidemic. The chikungunya never had either the country or in Portoviejo, so with the first case we had was an outbreak of disease, “he explains.
He said that from now on will be a disease chikungunya more like dengue. “The figures for the following years will be compared, but the ideal is to have outbreaks or cases increases,” says Pinargote. Read Article
