Lima, Peru: Government Inaugurates Campaign Against Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation

On August 22, 2013 La República Noticias reported that the Ministry of Women and Vulnerable Populations and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism presented a campaign against human trafficking and the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents. The campaign began with the distribution of posters and brochures at the airport in Lima. There are plans to later replicate the action in other air and ground transportation terminals throughout the country.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, between 2004 and 2011 there were 974 victims of human trafficking in the country, 92% of them women. The regions reporting the highest number of child sexual exploitation cases are Cuzco, Puno and Arequipa in the south, Piura in the north and the jungle regions of Iquitos and Lima. Read Article
