Lambayeque, Peru: Despite Drug Activity, Only 1.7 Kilos of Cocaine Seized from 2006 to 2011

From La Republica on August 15, 2013- Despite being considered a strategic drug trafficking hub for its geographical position, between 2006 and 2011 agents from Divandro only seized 1.7 kilos of cocaine. Drug trafficking experts say that Lambayeque is a key point for drug storage and shipment abroad for drugs coming from La Libertad, Cajamarca, and Piura. This shows that regional police are not doing intelligence work, and not checking produce shipments, a main modality of trafficking, at checkpoints.
