Lamas, Peru: French Tourist Dies from Consuming Ayahuasca Herb

According to Peru21.pe the Lamas police announced that a French tourist, Celine Rene Margarite Briset, 43, died after consuming the hallucinogenic herb, ayahuasca, during a shamanism session at a tourist resort in San Martin in the province of Lamas. Authorities say Briset died due to excessive consumption of the herb, suffering a cardiac arrest, dying immediately. Police say Briset had arrived at the Tourist Rehabilitation Center of El Convento right after the shaman session with a health emergency. The Prosecutor’s Office of Cainarachi has ordered pathology and toxicology tests to determine the cause of death. Authorities say this is not the first foreigner who has been a victim of the misuse of ayahuasca and are completing a through investigation. There have been several cases of poisoning and three months ago an Argentine citizen consumed an excessive amount of the herb and later committed suicide with a knife.Read Article
