Lack of enforecment on Brazil highways worsens

In Brazil’s federal highway, a truck can drive a distance equivalent to Brasilia to Belo Horizonte, or of St. Louis to Bethlehem without passing through any post despite its load. With 57,000 kilometers of federal roads under the responsibility of the Ministry of Transport, today the country has 70 weigh stations – one station every 814 km. For comparison, the United States, as a path from Miami to New Jersey, there is one post each weighing about 170 km. The lack of control in Brazil helps to aggravate the calamity on the road – just at the carnival this year were 213 deaths on federal highways. Read Article
