La Calera, Chile: Anti-narcotics Brigade Seized More than 116 Kilos of Cocaine

May 22, 2013- Impacto Diario reported that agents of the Chilean Anti-narcotics Brigade (Briant) seized 116 kilos 541 grams of cocaine in the city of La Calera. This success was part of Briant’s efforts to thwart a drug ring operating from Bolivia, although there has only been one arrest so far, the driver of the truck. The truck entered Chile at the Chungará, Arica border crossing. The head of Briant, Pedro Muñoz attributes the success to intelligence efforts and the use of drug detecting dogs. The investigation is ongoing to identify more members of this criminal network. Because of the high purity of the cocaine it is possible that it was on its way to a clandestine laboratory to increase its volume by up to 400 percent. Read Article
