Heavy rains cause blackouts in Dominican Republic

The national electricity system in the Dominican Republic has suffered in the past few days due to bouts of heavy rain, according to hoy.com.do. Parts of Santo Domingo and other inland communities experienced blackouts yesterday as a reported 40 circuits and electrical lines were damaged. Electrical companies in the south (Edesur) and East (Edeeste) have been working overtime to repair the damage as they received 355 complaints just yesterday morning about power outages. Some parts of eastern Santo Domingo have been without power for 32 hours, but the northern area of the country has yet to suffer any disruptions in their electricity.
