Guatemala: kidnapping cases down 20 percent 2011

The president of Guatemala, Otto Perez Molina, noted that during 2011l kidnappings have decreased by 20%. So far this year there have been 17 reported kidnappings less than last year when the figure reached 82.

The figures reported criminal actions that correspond to actual percentage decreased during the year as many cases that have been reported are treated auto hijacking.

“We detected simulated kidnappings, where kidnap victims to collect self rescue their own families. These cases were also detected by the Anti-Kidnapping Task Force, “said the president.

In addition, there have been 115 catch criminals involved in these crimes, which in relation to 2011, representing 42% of catches, ie 34 detainees, due to the actions of the police anti-kidnapping Task Force.
