Guatemala City, Guatemala: Two Young Sex Trafficking Victims Rescued

On July 11, 2013 Prensa Libre Noticias reported the rescue of two girls aged 12 and 14, the apparent victims of sex trafficking, from “La Serenita” bar in Guatemala City. The owner of the bar, a Salvadoran woman, was later discovered to be the mother of the two young victims.

According to a complaint made to the Attorney General’s Office, the victims were forced to have sex with customers at the establishment. The victims have since been sent to a group home as a security measure pending placement with a suitable family member. The Public Ministry is now investigating the case to determine criminal responsibility and whether there are more victims involved. Read Article
