Government declares agricultural emergency in Salta, Argentina

The Argentine national government declared last week a state of agricultural emergency in Salta due to hail and drought that has affected the area since November 2010, according to infocampo.com.ar. Tax benefits and other forms of aid will be given to farmers in Salta until October of this year as long as they are able to prove their land and business was affected by the natural disasters. The declaration will benefit producers of chickpeas, wheat, watermelon, pumpkin, onion, melon, squash, tomato and eggplant in General Pizzarro and El Quebrachal and cattle ranchers in Rivadavia.
