Ecuadorian Military Guard Ordered to Withdraw from Water Plant

According to Hoy.com.ec last night, July 4th, the Ecuadorian military guarding the water plant of Victoria del Portete, a rural community of the Cuenca province, was withdrawn. Officials say Governor Humberto Cordero, ordered the withdrawal of police and military stationed at the water plant since Saturday. Additionally, officials say that the governor acted with the permission of the company who owns the water plant, Etapa Ep and the mayor of Cuenca. These officials were the same people who requested the military presence. Reportedly, a meeting is scheduled today for 3 p.m. to discuss the emerging conflict surrounding the military presence at the water plant.
