Ecuador, Tungurahua Volcano eruption activity resumes March 20, 2012

The Tungurahua volcano in the last hours recorded an increase of eruptive activity characterized by strong explosions and ejection of ash and incandescent blocks, after weeks of relative calm, said Tuesday the Geophysical Institute. The eruptive activity began in late Monday and continued during the early hours of Tuesday when he dropped a rain of ash on the towns of El Manzano and Chonglontus, south west of the Colossus. There were also loud explosions and incandescent blocks falling on its side. Tungurahua, of 5,023 meters above sea level, is located on the central Andes, about 135 kilometers southeast of Quito.
