Ecuador, tourists robbed in Puerto Lopez, Manabi

Tourists were recently robbed of numerous items while staying at the Hosteria Mantaraya, located in Puerto Lopez in Manabi. The alleged ring leader was ‘Felix the Cat” (Gato Felix) who is associated with the gang ‘Fideo’ (noodles). According to police the elements of the gang was disbanded last year by authorities. However, a number of the members are now being released from prison. They specialize in robbing electronic items, cash, and car keys belonging to victims. Felix the Cat was apprehended after a guest the Hosteria Mantaraya heard the assailants who did not see her and police were phoned. They located ‘Felix the Cat’ just outside the hotel. He was in possession of a stolen vehicle and numerous stolen personal items including cash. A number of tourists refused to file formal complaints. Source: Lahora.com.ec
One simple defensive move here is to always keep your vehicle keys on your person. Don’t leave them laying around your hotel room.
