Ecuador: Three out of Ten Children Sexually Abused

Maytte Gavilánez, journalist with the FLACSO, originated this creative and important proposal that was born from the call to the National contest radio journalism.
“The idea was to create an investigative report focused on radio and based on social issues, so I took this very complicated for the sole purpose of preventing abuse,” said Gavilánez.
According to the National Council for Children and Adolescents, sexual abuse is physical acts of a sexual nature which is subject to a child or teenager, even with his apparent consent, by seduction, blackmail, intimidation, deception, threats.
After a thorough investigation, sought Maytte frightening figures, because in just the first quarter of the year there were 922 complaints in the prosecution of child sexual abuse.
Gauteng is the province with the highest number of complaints, 181 cases have been reported in El Oro 170 complaints, 169 sum Pichincha child sexual abuse and Manabi 129.
“In Ecuador, three out of ten children have suffered sexual violence especially in the family and school environment,” said Gavilánez. Read Article
