Ecuador: President Correa blasts international media for allegedly publishing lies

telesurtv.net reported Correa called on people to defend Ecuador from Western “campaign to discredit the country” via social media.

Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa blasted international media, including the Guardian, the Economist and Le Monde for allegedly publishing “lies” on the recent opposition protests that hit the country mid-August.

The president told The Economist via Twitter to “Stop lying about Ecuador. Come to the country to determine the reality before publishing falsities. A little decency,” while The Guardian was told by the head of the nation to “Demonstrate some professional integrity. Do some research or at least answer the phone.”

He also denounced the “lies” written by journalists Didier Fassin and Marc Saint-Upery for the French daily Le Monde. “Tell these people that if they want to do politics, that they should join Pachakutik,” he said referring to the leading opposition Indigenous political party in Ecuador.
