Ecuador: Police Shootout, Bank Escort Leaves One Dead, One Wounded

ElComercio.com reports that a police shootout occurred this morning, Tuesday June 28th, two blocks from the Quito airport, Mariscal Sucre, leaving one dead and another wounded. The police have yet to identify the victim and the wounded was identified as one of the police officers involved. Officers report that three police officers were involved in a shootout with at least 10 members of a Quito gang. Police officers were escorting a person with a large money transfer for a nearby bank. According to one police officer the assailants ambushed the police guard and an unidentified car crashed into the police on motorcycles. Officers say that the assailants fled with the money, while one was fatally injured. Police are still locating the suspects.Read Article
