Ecuador: Earthquake impacts shrimp business, prices going up

Shrimp prices from Ecuador have gone up after the impact of the 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the country on April 16.

The earthquake caused several hundreds deaths and generated billions of dollars of damages, particularly in Pedernales, located in Ecuador’s central Pacific Coast.

Sources told Undercurrent News previously that 80% of producers pools in the area were irreparably damaged, but Ecuador’s biggest shrimp farmers, clustered in the southwest of the country, were mostly unaffected. Read Article
