Ecuador averages 451 reports of kidnapping annually

An average of 451 reports of kidnapping or abduction is recorded annually in the country, according to statistics from the National Directorate of the Judicial Police (DNPJ) regarding the behavior of this crime, punishable under Article 188 of the Penal Code. Official figures show that from 2000 to the first quarter of 2012, total 5412 complaints.

Of that total, the year unless the crime was reported in 2000, with 166 cases, while the year was highest in 2011, with 899 cases. As for statistics of people arrested for that offense, the DNPJ figures, in the same period, 1,122 captured realize, equivalent to an average of 93.5 detainees per year. Read Article
