ECLAC reports poverty down in Latin America thirty percent

The number of poor people in Latin America will increase from 177 million in 2010 to 174mn end of this year, the lowest in the last twenty years, reported the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

According to the Social Panorama presented in Santiago by the regional organization of United Nations , the fall in the poverty rate from 31.4% to 30.4, in contrast to the increase in the percentage of indigents, which in 2011 will rise from 12 , 3 to 12.8%. In absolute terms, of the 174 million poor people, 73 million are in extreme poverty or are homeless, three million more than in 2010. Read Article
