Anti-narcotics experts have closely watched drug activity in the Cancun, Mexico airport to determine how traffickers attempt to smuggle drugs to destinations such as Europe. According to Sipse, drug mules arrive in Cancun about 3 days before the scheduled departure flight and often stay in a hotel to prepare the drug. Many of the traffickers that have been caught recently were attempting to take drugs to locations in Italy and the Netherlands. Officials found receipts and documents in their baggage concerning hotel stays, plane tickets, and restaurant visits. Drugs are most frequently found stored in false suitcase bottoms. According to the report, mules are given instructions about how to bypass airport security prior to departure. Officials believe airport authorities and customs agents aid in trafficking procedures in order to ensure the drugs reach their destination without detection. Read Article
