Drug Traffickers Captured in Costa Rica with Ties to Mexico and Ecuador

Prensa Latina reported on May 15, 2013 that the Drug Control Police (PCD) of Costa Rica arrested members of an international drug ring dedicated to the transfer of large shipments of cocaine from South America to the United States via the sea. Four people were arrested, two Costa Ricans and two Mexicans, on charges of international drug trafficking. This was part of an investigation that began in October 2012 and has led to the capture of 168 people this year. In addition to the arrests, authorities seized 5.8 tons of cocaine, 5,303 doses of crack, and 533 kilos of marijuana. Agents of the Deputy Attorney General against Organized Crime carried out 8 raids on Wednesday in the cities of Golfito, Puntarenas, San Jose. Earlier this year, Costa Rican authorities arrested 3 men and seized 381 kilos of cocaine off the coast of Ecuador as part of the same investigation. Read Article
