Dominican Republic: Ton of cocaine seized near Baní coast, U.S. DEA involved

The National Drug Control of the Dominican Republic, the Coast Guard, and the U.S. DEA together in a joint operation seized a little over a ton of cocaine along the coast by Baní. The operation occurred in international waters at night on June 29, 2012. According to Globedia, 36 bags of cocaine were found on board a boat with 3 motors approximately 110 miles south of Baní. The drugs, which had originated in South America, were transported to Puerto Rico after an agreement with the United States. This discovery was the second largest drug seizure in the Dominican Republic so far in 2012. No arrests have been reported. Read Article
