Dominican Republic: Alert Declared in 18 of 32 provinces, intense rains

laht.com reported at least 3,603 people have been displaced, 606 homes damaged or destroyed and 23 communities cut off as a result of intense rains over the past two days in the Dominican Republic, emergency authorities said Sunday.

The rain caused flooding throughout the eastern and northeastern portions of the country, the COE emergency operations committee reported, adding that two bridges, an electrical substation and a hospital had been damaged.

Authorities have declared an alert in 18 of the country’s 32 provinces, with the most heavily affected being San Pedro de Macoris in the east, where floodwaters have cut the land connections with several towns and destroyed dozens of homes. Read Article
