After conducting a tour of the cellars and pharmacies of the Hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo, the President of the Directing Council of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security (IESS), Richard Espinosa, verified the normal supply of medicines and called on the citizens to denounce the cases in which they are denied access to them.
“Tell me the name of who it is, because you can not deny the existence of medicines. There you can see and I can prove them. The warehouses are fully stocked, “he questioned the claims of several citizens about being denied the existence of medicines.

He also reiterated that they will continue to visit the hospitals of the IESS to reconform and check their supply. “We have medicines that are outside the basic picture, however expensive they are, we have them,” he said.

“We are proud to say that we have done a total of 382 transplants,” he said, while mentioning that 100% of the basic supply of drugs is 787 types, while in 2006 there were only 30, including for catastrophic diseases or orphans.

He indicated that US $ 860 million has been invested only for catastrophic diseases such as cancer and that 11% of medicines that are not marketed in Ecuador, the IESS imports them. Read Article
