New Current to Affect Coast of Ecuador

Ecuadorenvivo.com reports that the Oceanographic Institute of the Navy (INOC) has detected the presence of a new aguaje, sea current, during the days of the 16th, 17th, and 18th of June. The current was detected off the Ecuadorian coast. The National Risk Management agency says that they are issuing coastal warning of an increase in wave heights, up to heights of 2 meters, increase in magnitude of coastal currents especially in areas near the coast. Designated areas will be recommended for swimmers. From Tuesday June 21st the Institute says that waves will reach 2 meters in height, the sea will become very rough, and sediment transport to the coastal zone will increase. Therefore, effects, such as erosion, could be felt by coastal structures near the beach.Read Article
