Colonia La Madera, Mexico, burglaries of tourists hotel rooms on rise

This past Tuesday, a Canadian tourist’s hotel room was burglarized in Colonia La Madera in Zihuatanejo. According to the Ministry of Tourist Assistance as reported by suracapulco.com.mx, the victim was robbed of $1000 USD and 170 in Canadian dollars. The burglar entered through the window of the hotel room. The news report did not state the name of the hotel but indicated it was located at Eva Samano de Lopez Mateo.

A member of a citizens participation group submitted to suracapulo.com.mx that insecurity continues in Colonia la Madera and that between January and February 2011, there were 4 reported burglaries of hotel rooms by tourists. It as suggested that possibly the burglaries could by employees of the establishments. The hotels where the burglaries have occurred have limited if any security. Read Article
