Colombia: At least 9 dead after sinking ship carrying 170 tourists

Nine people were killed and 28 people missing after the wreck of the “El Almirante” tourist boat, which occurred in the Guatapé reservoir, about 80 kilometers northwest of Medellín, according to official sources.

“Initially 99 people were rescued immediately, then two groups of 40, and unfortunately so far there is a tragic report of nine people killed and about 28 people who are reported missing,” said the director in charge Of the Administrative Department of Disaster Prevention (Dapard) of Medellín, Margarita Moncada.

The official lamented the situation, and said that according to the mayor of the municipality, “this is the first time there is a situation where they have given us initial information of a boat that sank with approximately 170 people,” he said.

In a video that began to circulate in social networks it is observed the sinking of the ship and dozens of boats approaching the place in rescue of its occupants.
