Chiquita Banana Company’s Involvement with Paramilitaries and Guerrillas, Colombia

When the Chiquita Banana Company turned over to the U.S. Justice department thousands of documents, they revealed the company’s involvement with paramilitary groups such as AUC, guerrillas, and the military in Colombia. The article by the National Security Archive links to these Chiquita Papers, which describe the company’s strategies to hide the payments to these groups as well as the benefits, derived. The papers also describe the involvement of officials such as former president Álvaro Uribe in their support of Convivir groups that assisted these payments. Read Article
