Chile: Storm causes 2,000 to be homeless, 300,000 without electricity

The storm of rain and wind that affects the central and southern Chile on Saturday has left one dead, nearly 2,000 people homeless and 337,000 without power in their homes, officials said.

Speaking to the press, the president of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, lamented the death of a woman because of the storm and said the government implemented the necessary measures “to alleviate, assist and collaborate with people who have been affected and harms of this bad weather front. ”

The frontal system has been in a strip running from the Valparaiso region of Los Lagos, but has particularly affected the Bio Bio region, told journalists the director of the National Emergency Office (Onemi), Benjamin Chacana.
