Central America, violence engulfs economy

Public spending on security in the region in 2010 accounted for 2.66 percent of gross domestic product, about 4,000 million dollars, not that the policies implemented by governments against crime have been successful. The Central American countries assume a loss of 6,500 million dollars as a result of violence, almost 8 percent of GDP, more than 50 percent goes to health care costs. Read Article
